Kansas City’s link between industry, charity, and the environment.

Throughout the year The Surplus Exchange takes part in special events to benefit the community.
If you are concerned about our environment, please let your local city and county leaders know that you want something done. eWaste is a growing problem that we must address, together we can make a difference.

We and our downstream recyclers handle consumer electronics (computers, computer peripherals, televisions, stereo equipment, video equipemant …), basically items with circuit boards in them.  We also have a recycler that handles microwaves, which are generally easy for us to stack and take back to our facility.  We do not recycle items such as vacuums, fans, hair dryers, software, computer books, or appliances.  When you bring these items to an event, our volunteers should not unload them.  When they do, we have to make extra efforts to ensure they are disposed of properly.

We also ask that you refrain from bringing office copiers and printers to the events.  Basic rule, if it has wheels on the bottom it is probably too big to bring to an event.  We can still recycle these for at 518 Santa Fe, but at the events we usually have limited space, and these items can reduce the amount of recycling that we can do there.  Also, please do not repackage your items.  If you repackage an item in the box, bags, and styrofoam, we have to unpack them before shipping.  This can reduce the amount of time we can spend unloading vehicles and we have to dispose of these materials.  Thank you.

Check this page often for our schedule of events, or special notices.
